The mayor of Portland Oregon has had enough.
Quite the turnaround from last year where we saw him and the city buckle under pressure to defund the police department. They cut $15 million from the police budget, including disbanding the units that investigate gun violence. Crime is up, homicides are up, and the riots continue.
Maybe reality has set in. The mayor has asked for $2 million in emergency funding for the police department. Are there enough police officers left? And as I already stated, he also asked the Oregon governor to deploy the National Guard.
I guess he has truely had enough. I applaud him for seeing that his policies were failing, and having the courage to reverse them and try to bring his city back to normal. However, I hope the people of Portland remember the decisions he has made over the past year and vote him out when they get the chance.
